Louis Kessler’s Behold Blog

Thursday, June 17, 2004 - Thu, 17 Jun 2004

Dick Eastman decided to experiment by making his newsletter available as a Blog. Of course, I’ve got my Behold blog (which you are now reading) so he perked my interest up again. Back when I first set up this blog (Nov 2002) I experimented with Blogger.com, which has since been taken over by Google, and built my own template based on one of theirs. However, I decided to do this as straight html for a few reasons. Since then, I have had a few inquiries as to whether I supply an XML feed. This is something new I really didn’t know about. I downloaded the free SharpReader (which Dick recommended) so that I can experiment with blog feeds and blog readers. Blog feeds appear to be the newfangled method of reading online content, to add to the plethoria of ways already available (e-mail, maillists, newsgroups, forums), but they do appear to be gaining momentum.

Joel Spolsky wrote a very interesting article about Microsoft’s internal struggles between “Backwards Compatibility” camp and the “reinventing everything” camp. It seems that the reinventing camp is starting to take over. As a result, a lot of new developments will occur in the next few years - some good, some bad. Joel explains them well.

It’s been a tough month with too many things getting in the way of further development. I’ve really got to get down now and brute force my way through making sure the organize functions are all working together properly. Let’s see how much I can get done in the next few days.
