Checking out a new version of GemX’s TexNotes at their website. I like to look at all note-taking text editors for ideas, since they all give me ideas for Behold. But especially this one, since it also uses Sergey’s RichView components. I see they use SWReg as their registration service. I hadn’t checked out SWReg in awhile. I like what I see. I check back to the one I had decided on and … whoops - the service price increased. I haven’t committed yet, so I could still change. But my old one no longer seems to include a discussion forum for my customers. That was the hook they had that I wanted.
So now I have to search around for a new Discussion Forum service. Search on Google. There are a million of them. Most of the online services that are good are fairly expensive. But worse than that, there is no guarantee any of them will be around 5 years from now. Some of these services come and go like night owls.
However, I found one or two services I might be able to put on my website. They lead me to some ASP programming sites that have lists of dozens of different programs. But one that really appealed to me and caught my eye is BroadBoard. It is fairly inexpensive, is written fully in ASP, is thoughtfully designed with only the most needed features, and runs with an Access database which my ISP supports.
Purchased BroadBoard, and I basically got it set up in only about 20 minutes. Only one glitch. Can’t get its e-mail services to work.
This was one of my Behold To Do tasks. I’m marking my Discussion Forum up from 40% to 60%.
