I've had second thoughts on this. The biggest problem with the free e-mail accounts is that they are throwaway. The account could vanish at any time, and they are not reliable for e-commerce.

I suspect most adults who take on genealogy as a hobby, must have a regular e-mail account with their ISP and maybe have a bunch of free e-mail accounts they use for whatever - probably to help prevent spam or to provide a means they can't be easily tracked for certain activities. It does seem prudent not to allow those other accounts for e-commerce.

Although I only use my lkessler.com e-mail address, my kids have several Hotmail and Yahoo accounts they use, and they can list themselves as anybody of any age from anywhere.

I've set my setting back and put a line at the bottom of my Buy Now page in bold stating: "Please note: You cannot use a free email account such as Hotmail or Yahoo to order."

I'd be happy to hear anyone's comments on this.

Louis
Thanks for letting me know this.

I didn't realize it, but by default Plimus does not accept Hotmail, Yahoo and other free accounts. Their reason (they say) is that 97.3 percent of fraudulent orders are submitted from e-mail addresses originating from a free e-mail service.

I can see that being a problem for people selling games and music programs, but I would think it wouldn't be a major problem for genealogy programs. So I have changed my setting to now allow free e-mail accounts.

I don't know why they were slow in sending your license number and confirmation. I will send them an e-mail and ask them about that.

Sorry that you're the one who was faced with this. But that's why I am alpha testing - to get everything working right, including early problems with my order processing service.

Louis

Plimus refuses to use my free email account from hotmail; also slow in sending license number and confirmation; I received a message 2 hours ago that they were evaluating my purchase data.

Kindest regards,
Beth G.
