Tagging pictures. I’ve always planned to eventually get Behold to do that, but couldn’t decide on how best to do it. Now I’ve seen a solution that I’m really impressed with.

Facebook is a new social networking site, somewhat like MySpace, but frequented mostly by students. It allows you to identify the people pictured in the image. A crosshair allows you to select a person in the picture, you click on it and enter a tagname to identify the person. This tag will automatically link to that person’s Facebook page. If you hover over the person in the picture, a tool tip shows you the tagname. Tags are also listed below the picture, and you can add your own comments which appear beholow th image.

I’ve seen lots of programs that add tags to pictures, but I must say that Facebook’s implementation is the slickest I have seen, and it is a great one to model Behold’s image tags after. Behold’s tags of course would link to the person in the file. People in the file will link to all the pictures they are in. I’ll extend this concept so that Behold will also have tags in pictures for the place, event, date and photographer. I’ve now added these ideas onto Behold’s Future Plans page.

Unfortunately, my daughters won’t allow me to create a Facebook account for myself. It is a household rule they imposed on me, so I’ll have to research it more looking over their shoulders.
