A few random notes:

There’s a new verion of Family Historian available, and with it they’ve made an interesting GEDCOM test and have compared their program with Roots Magic and Family Tree Maker. Family Historian was designed using GEDCOM as its data structure, so naturally, it is vastly superior in a test that reads and writes a GEDCOM. Behold uses an extended-GEDCOM data structure so it can handle anything even remotely resembling GEDCOM, but it won’t save GEDCOM’s until version 1.5. I’ll make sure that Behold has no problem with this GEDCOM test when I get to 1.5.

I’m always on the lookout for new innovations in Genealogy software. One program with some new ideas is GenGenie RM. They claim that new mathematical techniques have only now made their REMAIN-GEN technology possible. Their “crowning achievement” is to have gained the ability to transform genealogical relationships into mathematical functions. That’s about all the detail they provide, but I’ll be interested in seeing what they come up with.

I saw that Luc Comeau, the author of GENViewer, downloaded Behold last week. I had given a nice comment in my Blog about GENViewer on Jan 21. I sent Luc an e-mail to see if he would be nice enough to comment about what he thinks of Behold. I haven’t heard back from him yet.
