I was not happy with how long Behold’s Forum’s main page seemed to take to load - about 5 seconds. That sort of response is enought to turn people off from using it. After a few hours of testing and debugging, I finally found that I only had to make sure the statement “Response.Buffer=True” was at the beginning of each ASP page. On some pages it was set to False. After changing them, the Forum is fast again.
Finally, due to Wal-Mart here in Canada offering an unheard-of price of 12 cents to print a 4×6 photo, I decided it was time to get about 500 of my digital photos ready to print. I wanted to crop them to 4×6 and add a caption on the bottom of each. After figuring none of the programs I now own (Paint Shop Pro, Paint Shop Photo Album, and others) could do those two tasks easily and quickly and not degrade the jpeg image while doing it, I thought I should look around. I found and purchased a little gem of a program called Better JPEG, which is just perfect for this. Check it out.
I’d love to add that sort of functionality right into Behold at some time in the future. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but that same picture is worthless without a few words to identify it.
Happy holiday season, everyone!
