After a goodley number of decisions, I finally decided on the structure and contents of the Readme file. I ended up with the following sections:
- Product Description
- License Information
- System Requirements
- Installation Notes
- Known Issues
- Getting Started
- New and Future Features
- Technical Support
- For Further Information
I wrote up all the sections and finished the file, and I’m very pleased with the result.
During that process, I did revise my elevator statement to:
Behold is a much-needed tool for Genealogists that allows you to work with and make use of all the family information you have gathered. Behold will help you get and stay organized, and will be of invaluable help to you when you do your research.
I replaced the “not in … but out” statement on Behold’s Home Page with it. I also added a couple more descriptive paragraphs that I am happy with to give a concise description of Behold for section 2 of the Readme. I can use that for other purposes as well.
