Behold Update - Forum post by lkessler in Questions and Answers - 10 Jun 2018

Well, it's now June and I haven't got Version 1.3 out yet. --Sigh-- I've been busy with DMT and I've got new and exciting things coming with it. But Behold is still a priority, and I resolved at New Year's to have Behold Version 1.5 out by the end of the year, so 1.3 will have to come before that.

Behold Update - Forum post by lkessler in Questions and Answers - 8 Oct 2017

Hi Deck, Yeah. I have the 1.3 version in development with a few features to finish off plus documentation update prior to release it. That's about a month or two of work. But I've been kept very busy with some exciting DNA work that I've been doing and I put Behold down a few months ago to finish off a new ...

My Heritage DNA scam - Forum post by lkessler in Questions and Answers - 4 Jun 2017

Unfortunately, the companies find many people purchase DNA tests specifically for their ethnicity results. So they greatly advertise this and get testers. Some get good information. Others don't. This is not a science but is an approximate art. They should at least be telling you this in advance ... but then, ...

Dates and Sorting - Forum post by lkessler in General Discussion - 3 Jan 2017

There are other calendars as well, such as the Chinese or Hindu calendars. GEDCOM doesn't even address those. What I think is most important is to make sure what people use and need the most works, and works well. Few people use other calendars in combination with Gregorian. If they do, they'll usually have a ...

Dates and Sorting - Forum post by lkessler in General Discussion - 25 Dec 2016

Dave, Yes, the month numbers can be reused. And you're correct. This system will not sort correctly between calendars. I developed it mainly as a way to efficiently store GEDCOM dates in Behold, and figured out an easy way to also enable it to sort properly within a specific calendar. For anyone else reading ...

Suppress Source Info - Forum post by lkessler in Questions and Answers - 7 Dec 2016

Michael, The concept was that the Tags page in the Organize window allows you to select what GEDCOM tags would display or be hidden. So deselecting SOUR in theory should hide all the sources. I'm not sure how well that works any more because many years and versions have happened since the Tags page was ...

What might be a temprary alternative to Behold - Forum post by lkessler in General Discussion - 21 Jul 2015

Colin, The best file 5.5.1 test file I know of are the 3 files at http://wiki-de.genealogy.net/GEDCOM_Musterdatei/Musterdatei that are in 3 different character encodings. All genealogy software should support all 3. The files also contain lines that test the organization's GEDCOM-EL extensions. All the ...

What might be a temprary alternative to Behold - Forum post by lkessler in General Discussion - 21 Jul 2015

Colin, Grrrrr. I was hoping not to have to. What does Family Historian do when it encounters a 5.5.1 file now? All PAF exports are 5.5.1 and RootsMagic and etc. So I couldn't see Simon not having it programmed in. Louis

probate... - Forum post by lkessler in Report a Problem - 21 Jul 2015

Colin, The idea is that these messages are designed to point out "likely" problems. Things you'll want to check. They should not be wrong more than 5% of the time or they are too loose. If fewer than 5% of probates occurs after a year, then it is set at about the right level, because you may have a few of them ...
